Celebrating 20 years of Healthy Business

We are proud to be celebrating our 20th year of supporting people and workplaces to make impactful and lasting changes to their health and wellbeing.

Over the last 20 years we have been fortunate to partner with many amazing businesses, government agencies and community organisations; all committed to improving the health and wellbeing of their people.

Healthy Business director, Tasmanian native, and former Brisbane Lions three-time AFL premiership champion, Alastair Lynch, explains the origins of Healthy Business. “I was increasingly sharing my personal health story about my struggles with chronic fatigue, how it came about, and how I worked through it to achieve my goals. Discussing the multiple influences on my health, like sleep, diet, exercise and mental health, was a story that resonated well with workplaces”.

It was while presenting at a Tasmanian workplace that Alastair came to be a part of Healthy Business and the unique work that they had just started doing in the preventative health space. Alastair saw the potential that Healthy Business would have, explaining that

“everyone needs to look at their health in a holistic way, and the workplace is such a great opportunity to drive change as we all spend so much of our lives at work.”

The more Healthy Business were raising awareness and supporting people to make positive changes, the more we saw the power of prevention over recovery. Alastair says that “this approach of preventing injury and illness in workplaces also aligned with how the best organisations in sport go about looking after their greatest assets, their people.”

From Healthy Business’ humble beginnings in Tasmania, our client partnerships have expanded across Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. During this time, we have been proud to be able to achieve positive outcomes for such a diverse range of organisations, spanning from small to large scale, white to blue collar, urban and remote.

Alastair says, “I’m proud to be actively part of something that helps people manage the many influences on health that I had to overcome in order to achieve my successes in sport.”

One of the key components to our successful growth, and consequently the positive outcomes that we have achieved for so many individuals and organisations, is our people first approach.

Our 20 years of experience has shown us that every business and every person is unique.

Our approach has always centred around firstly getting to know the organisations that we partner with, and what their people need, to create the right solution for them. We have learnt that by adapting our approach to suit, we can engage more people to create the best outcomes for everyone.

Importantly, it’s our dedicated team members that have always been the driving force behind the business. They are passionate about health and wellbeing and know how to empower others towards positive and sustainable improvements.

Healthy Business CEO, Steve McCullagh says that “Over 20 years there are so many staff members to thank. They have all helped shape who we are and what we do”. When discussing the progression of health and wellbeing in the workplace, Steve says

“Over the years we have learnt the strong influence that the workplace has on someone’s health. Good work is good for you. That’s why we work with our partners to not only support their people to improve their health and wellbeing, but to also understand and address the impact of the work environment on employee health.”

The Healthy Business team are excited to be moving into a future where more and more employers are seeing the importance and value of understanding and addressing health and wellbeing in the workplace. Steve states that “Pleasingly, a focus on health and wellbeing is increasingly being understood as a need to have, as opposed to a nice to have.”

At Healthy Business, we have always known that when employers and their staff invest in better health and wellbeing, everyone wins. Because healthier people are the key to a healthier, happier, and more productive business!
